The skin is probably the most important part of our body. It’s one of those that people usually notice first. So, to keep it youthful and glowing, we do all means necessary to make it so. But, because of every day stress and environmental factors that our skin is exposed to, it’s one of the hardest things to do, too.

Maintaining the skin’s suppleness, elasticity, glow, and youthful look is something we should do daily. Yes, there are many who has a lot of time to take off their make-up, wash, tone, moisturize and take care of their skin. But, for others who do not have the luxury of time, they often sleep with their makeup on, never wash their faces clean, and neither tone nor moisturize it as well. They, in turn, suffer the consequences of their actions. A few years after, they will notice the first signs of premature aging.

Aging can be reversible, depending on the extent. Some appearances of fine lines and wrinkles can be remedied by miracle facial creams that promises to do so. Rough skin can be solved as well, simply by toning and moisturizing. For others, who have a budget for beauty, resort to chemically-laden beauty products and surgery, which can be both dangerous.

Good skin is something you work hard to achieve. Unless, you are one of the lucky ones who has naturally beautiful and young-looking skin. Take for instance, the movie stars. We are always in awe of how they and other celebrities look. At their age, they still manage to make their skin look young and flawless. Let’s see how these actresses who have successfully aged gracefully and still looked their best despite their age.

She was even dubbed as one of the sexiest women in Hollywood.  Aniston revealed that she uses sunscreen with an SPF 30. She eats healthy, loves to run, and do yoga. Also, she drinks a lot of water and uses a hydrating moisturizer.

3.  Reese Witherspoon

And, thankfully, her skincare regimen is as easy as pie. Aside from eating healthy and working out regularly, she swears by using a hydrating moisturizer. It is an important product for her, especially before putting makeup on.

4.  Jennifer Lopez

Another Jennifer makes the list with her glowing skin. Lopez reveals to using sunscreen with an SPF 15 or higher. She also likes using a collagen mask, which can be a bit pricey. But, just look at Lopez’s skin and you’ll know it’s all worth it.

5.  Sienna Miller

Miller is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, too. And, she stays young and beautiful, even at the age of 35. The blonde beauty still looks like she’s in her 20’s, probably because of her skin care routine. But, her advice is simple. Get a good night’s sleep. She believes that it’s sufficient to keep your skin regenerate and heal.

These movie stars are not as vain as we thought they were. Yes, they do some laser and peeling masks once in a while. But, aside from all of that, their skin care routine is basically similar to ordinary people. To summarize it all, here is a list.

1.  Cleanse

Cleanse your face with a suitable cleanser ideal for your skin type. Wash in the morning and in the evening everyday to get rid of dirt, excess oil and other debris that may clog pores and cause inflammation.

2.  Exfoliate

Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin cells and clears up your pores. Though, it’s an important factor in achieving clear skin, it should only be done twice a week. You can use an electronic brush to exfoliate your skin better. Or, use a do-it-yourself exfoliant like sugar and honey, baking soda, and coffee grounds for example. It’s much safer and a non-abrasive alternative for the skin which will give you the same results.

3.  Tone

Toners lowers the skin’s pH level and also helps calm the skin. It also allows your creams and other skin care products to be absorbed by the skin quickly. There are a ton of toners to choose from. The natural ones are also ideal compared to the chemically-made toners because they can give your skin a lot of conditioning benefits. And, not to mention, they do not sting, so it’s safer to use. Applying a toner is a also a great way to remove residual dirt on the skin after cleansing.  Some of the best toners are from Korean beauty products. Their products are usually organic and non-chemical, so it’s very safe to use on the skin.

4.  Moisturize

The skin needs to be moisturized daily, especially at night. It helps replenish the skin’s lost moisture and rejuvenate the skin from the daily wear and tear. It also helps restore the skin’s glow after a day of wearing makeup. Some Korean cosmetics brand also makes very good moisturizers that are effective, and made with natural ingredients.

5.  Don’t pick at your pimples and other blemishes

Never pick at or pop your pimples for specific reasons. First, you’re only making the inflammation worse and damages the skin around it that causes reddening and swelling.  Second, is that it can cause scabs. As soon as pus comes out of it, it forms a scab which you are more likely to pick at. Scabs are also impossible to cover up with concealer. Third, it may lead to scarring. Fourth, it leads to discoloration or hyperpigmentation, which takes two years to disappear. And lastly, it can lead infection caused by your dirty hands and equipment. When you pick at or pop your pimple, you tear the skin open, which makes it exposed to bacteria.

6.  Apply sunscreen

Applying a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 15 and up is enough to protect you from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. Overexposure to the sun without sunscreen can lead to wrinkles, premature aging, sunburn, and even cancer like melanoma. Melanoma is a very dangerous type of cancer because it can spread easily. It has become one of the leading causes of death, too.

7.  Eat healthy

You can never go wrong with eating healthy food. A well-balanced meal with the right amounts of meat, fish, vegetables or fruit can do wonders for your skin. Remember, you are what you eat.  Whatever goes into the body will reflect on how you look on the outside. Healthy food will also make you feel good, compared to eating greasy dishes and junk foods.

8.  Avoid smoking and alcohol

Smoking is an accelerator of the skin’s natural aging process. Young people who smoke will look 10 times older as smoking tends to allow the skin to show early signs of aging. Smoking also narrows the blood vessels, especially those that provide oxygen and nutrients to the skin. In other words, smoking will deprive your skin of the oxygen it needs and the nutrients like Vitamin A. The effects of alcohol are similar to smoking. It destroys the body’s supply of Vitamin A, making it vulnerable to infection as the barrier weakens. Vitamin A, as you may know, helps generate new skin cells to replace the old ones. It also boosts production of collagen. When you smoke and drink alcohol, your chances of getting premature wrinkles are big.

9.  Drink plenty of water

The standard 8 to 10 glasses is important to maintain the elasticity of the skin. It also makes it more supple. Water helps clear up the skin as it eliminates waste. When you drink plenty of water, your skin will look and feel better.

10.  Exercise regularly

Exercise, not only makes the body strong, but it also helps improve the blood circulation and oxygenation throughout the body, especially in the skin. It also triggers the production of a good amount of sebum which serves as the skin’s lubricant and protectant, too.

Proper skin care is an utmost necessity because it serves as the body’s first line of defense against infection and other environmental factors. It also maintains hydration, that is why, using harsh cleansers should be avoided as it can cause dryness of the skin as harsh cleansers can strip the skin of its natural oils and moisture. Dry skin can lead to cracks on the skin’s surface, compromising the barrier and making it prone to infections.

Looking young is not so simple, after all. It needs patience and determination to achieve it. But, with the help of skin care products, the idea of achieving younger-looking skin becomes simpler. Some technologies in skin care has started to rise up as well, but the process can be very expensive. So, proper skin care, enough sleep, and eating good food at an early age should already be practiced. This will save you tons of wrinkles, eye bags, dark circles, and money in the near future.
